Usually from wood or wicker rocking chairs have curved pieces of wood joined at the foot to allow the person sitting to enjoy smooth rocking motion. It is believed that this style of chair that originated in the 1700s in England and became popular in the United States around 1750. The modern rocking chair has evolved into a glider rocker, which allows the same rocking motion without the pieces inclined shaft rocker that could crush the tail of a cat unlucky to go through the chair while on the move. Rocking chairs fit nicely into sewing rooms, children’s rooms and front porches.
